Your Rights as a Customer
As a consumer of automotive collision repair, you have a number of rights which, if exercised, could better ensure that your vehicle will be repaired in a proper, complete and safe manner.
Choice of Repair Facility
Choosing an auto body shop after an accident is an important decision—and in most cases, it’s your choice. Not all body shops offer the same level of training, equipment, or repair standards.
Many automakers support Certified Collision Repair Programs, which include body shops that meet strict requirements for technician training, specialized equipment, and manufacturer-approved repair procedures. Dacus Auto Body & Collision Repair strives to meet and maintain these standards and is a Certified Collision Repair facility for 16 leading vehicle manufacturers, helping ensure your vehicle is repaired to restore its safety, performance, and value.
Most importantly, remember that your vehicle is being repaired for you. You should feel confident and comfortable with the auto body shop you choose. Even when filing an insurance claim, most states prohibit insurance companies from requiring you to use a specific body shop. While your insurer may pay for the repair, the final decision is yours.

Choice of Repair Parts
As a vehicle owner, you have the right to request that your car be repaired using Original Equipment (OE) collision replacement parts. These are the same parts provided by your vehicle’s manufacturer to ensure proper fit, performance, and—most importantly—safety.
Whether OE parts are approved can depend on your insurance policy and state laws. Some insurance policies cover OE parts automatically, while others may allow alternative parts unless OE coverage is specified. In many states, insurers and repair shops are required to disclose when non-OE parts are used, and in some cases, must obtain your consent.
Knowing your coverage and your rights before repairs begin helps protect your vehicle and your safety. If you have questions about repair parts, your auto body shop can help explain your options.

The Right to a Safe, Properly Repaired Vehicle
Everyone deserves to drive or ride in a safely repaired vehicle; one that will perform properly in the event of a subsequent collision. But don't leave safety to chance.
Ask questions about the parts that will be used, and how your car will be repaired. Ask about the technicians' training and if the shop is "certified" or "recognized" within the collision repair community. You have rights, but rights must be exercised. Get involved in the repair of your vehicle.
